Pete Seeger, Waist Deep In The Big Muddy
This performance is from the "Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour".
I have watched this performance of Pete Seegers "Waist Deep in the Big Muddy" hundreds of times at this point, and it still blows me away each and every time.
The song itself is a frightening tale of "Staying the course" which resonates as much today as it did when it was written. For me the performance itself is the real triumph. The fact that a single guy and a guitar can deliver so much information in such a simple direct way is amazing.
I actually love this song so much that I recorded a cover of it and then wrote my own sequel. Perhaps I'll release my version by the time that we get ourselves involved in the next war.
