R. Stevie Moore Who Killed Davey Moore?
This is one of the best songs ever written by Bob Dylan. Really!
R. Stevie Moore has released over 400 albums, which is an impressive feat that is only possible because of the fact that he has chosen to release EVERYTHING that he has ever recorded. Everything.
He is an artist that I really want to write more about in the future due to the nature of HOW he works.
I spend most days boring my friends with long winded discussions about the importance of saving all self censorship until AFTER the work is produced. You can always file away a bad idea, or improve it... but if you waste all of your creative energies second guessing every single instinct or decision, then you can’t possibly expect to make much progress.
For my mind, the only way that you will ever get anything done is to simply work with the time, energy and resources that you have available to you in the moment to make an idea into a reality... while accepting any shortcomings with the knowledge that they can always be addressed later.
Having a finished product allows you the opportunity to come back with a fresh set of eyes and THEN make an objective decision about what needs to be done next.
R. Stevie Moore has built an entire body of work out of this notion of pushing forward.
I decided to use this clip because it is a brilliantly awkward and funny "performance" set against a really tragic song. The combination of these two incongruous elements makes it completely awesome!
